Road Safety team participates in the 15th World Safety Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion

Sandeep Gaikwad, Senior Program Associate at Parisar, attended the prestigious 15th World Safety Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion from 2nd to 4th September 2024 in New Delhi. The conference brought together experts and professionals from around the globe, from diverse sectors, to discuss critical issues related to safety and injury prevention, creating a vibrant platform for exchanging ideas and knowledge.

It was hosted by The George Institute for Global Health in collaboration with the Transportation Research and Injury Prevention Center (TRIP) at IIT Delhi, Department of Emergency Medicine at AIIMS, and the Department of Epidemiology at NIMHANS. The conference was also co-sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO), emphasising its global significance. The agenda covered a wide range of pressing topics including road safety, prevention of harassment against children and women, drowning, suicide prevention, burn injuries, and more.

This event served as a pivotal gathering for professionals working towards safer environments. The sessions were packed with research-driven insights, policy discussions, and practical strategies. It was an incredible opportunity for learning and connecting with global experts to explore best practices and innovative approaches. The knowledge gained will be instrumental in shaping effective road safety initiatives and injury prevention measures.

During the conference, Sandeep had the opportunity to present on best practices for two-wheeler safety, emphasising the importance of visible on-ground enforcement. His presentation highlighted actionable strategies that could significantly reduce road crashes, particularly among two-wheeler riders in India. The following poster was presented:

A key highlight was hearing Shri Nitin Gadkari speak on the ministry's ongoing efforts to curb road crashes and fatalities. His address reaffirmed the government's commitment to making India's roads safer. Sandeep left the conference with valuable insights to further enhance Parisar’s road safety initiatives.
