Pune Municipal Corporation has approved Infant Toddler and Care-Giver Friendly Policy and Mobility Plan

In an effort to make urban mobility in the city, young children and caregiver friendly, Pune Municipal Corporation has approved the Infant Toddler and Care-Giver Friendly Policy and Mobility Plan for Pune under the Urban95 program supported by Bernard van Leer Foundation (BvLF) on 14th June. PMC had collaborated with Parisar with WRI India supported by BvLF in preparing this Policy and Mobility Plan for Pune city. The plan for Pune will further also provide inputs on the state level policy brief focused on the mobility of young children and caregivers.

Infant Toddler and their Care-Giver Friendly Policy is to address the mobility concerns of these young citizens users from 0-6yrs age and their care givers in the city, making way to livable healthy and safer city environment. Infant Toddler and their Care-Giver Friendly Mobility Plan for Pune is data-based planning prepared to highlight Infant Toddler and their Care-Giver priority zones in the city based on relevant data mapping of Infant ITC user destinations, mobility sources and accessibility helping decision maker with data based justified planning for development and addressing their mobility concerns. This toolkit aims to encourage cities to prioritise mobility planning from the lens of young children and families. This resource supports local governments, public transport agencies, urban practitioners and civil society to understand the situation of infant, toddler, caregiver-friendly mobility (ITC) in cities, planning of ITC-friendly mobility interventions, and measure their impact. A step-by-step guidance has been given to identify priority areas and propose relevant solutions. The toolkit is prepared based on the learnings from the city of Pune. 4. Infant, Toddler, Caregiver-Friendly Mobility for Indian Cities [Policy Brief]

This policy brief provides a set of objectives that aim to incorporate infants, toddlers and their caregivers’ (ITC) needs in design and planning of urban mobility to enable them to travel anywhere and everywhere in the city with safety and comfort. It has been formed based on the assessment of various existing policies and plans at International, National and Maharashtra State level as well as Pune city’s policies which focus on walkability and transport planning.
